Adobe Photoshop Showcase - Glossary

Add Contact
Opens a form to allow you to create a new contact to your online address book on Photoshop Showcase.

Asset (aka Media or Media Asset)
An individual media unit that is available for viewing, namely a photo, video or a custom Web photo gallery. An online gallery is comprised of any number of media assets – one or more photos, one or more videos or a single Web photo gallery.

AutoPlay
Automatically displays assets in sequence, progressing to the next file after 5 seconds. Autoplay will continue cycling through files until the “Stop” is selected or the window closed.

 

Comment (Commenting)
Commenting enables visitors to offer opinions and communicate with other gallery viewers by adding text (Add Comment) to the Comment section within the Media view page. Gallery owners enable/disable commenting by selecting/deselecting on the “Do Not Allow Commenting on this Gallery” check box. To protect registrant privacy, commenting requires login and thus, is only available to registered users of the Adobe Photoshop Showcase service.

Contact Owner
Allows you to send an email to the gallery’s owner

Create Password (4 to 20 characters)
Create a password consisting of 4 to 20 characters. Passwords are not case-sensitive.

Custom Server Page (CSP)
Pages accessed from Adobe Photoshop Elements during the uploading and sharing of a given user’s media.

 

Date (image)
Displays, within the detail view, the date the file was created (e.g. the date the picture was taken) and is part of the information associated with the file during the upload process.

 

Date (upload)
Displays the date of upload for the image from within My Account>Settings.

 

Delete
Removing galleries from the Photoshop Showcase account. Users can ONLY delete a full gallery.

 

Edit Contact
ContactClick to edit a contact’s name and/or email address.

Expand All Invites
In the Invitation Tracking form, click to expand and view information for all invitations.

 

Filters
Within the Gallery pages (My Galleries, Public Galleries, History) users can choose to display media of a specific type, only. The available media filters include View All to display all media types, Galleries to display only Photoshop Elements 5.0 custom gallery creations (Web Photo Galleries, Maps, etc.), Photos to display only photo galleries and Videos to display only video galleries. A secondary mechanism for filtering is available within the various sections of the Public Galleries (Most Recent, Top Rated, Most Visited) that allows the user to display the content based on the current week, current month or for all time.

Flash
An Adobe proprietary media type that supports animation and advanced display of media. Flash creations are supported in Photoshop Elements 5 (as Web Photo Galleries, Maps, etc.) These creations are available for viewing and sharing within the Adobe Photoshop Showcase as Galleries.

Font
You can change the font size of the comments to view more of them without needing to scroll or view in a larger size.

Gallery (Galleries)
Collections of assets/media assets for viewing and sharing. A single gallery is created for each set of uploaded and shared files. Sharing can only be done on specific galleries. Selecting "Share" within a specific image will share the gallery, starting the viewing experience at the selected image.

"Galleries" also refers to Photoshop Elements 5.0 Flash creations, namely Web Photo Galleries, Animated Web Photo Galleries, Interactive Web Photo Galleries, Map Galleries, etc. Each Photoshop Elements Web Photo Gallery uploaded and shared with Photoshop Showcase from within the Photoshop Elements builder or the Photoshop Elements Organizer window.

 

History
Displays a list of the galleries you most recently visited, limited to your most recent 12 galleries

Import Addresses (from the CSP only)
Imports addresses from the user’s Photoshop Elements Contact Book to the Adobe Photoshop Showcase Address Book.

Invitation Tracking
A list of private shares via email to select recipients. Users can view the list of invitations (private shares) from within Photoshop Showcase under My Account>Invitation Tracking, including the list of email recipients, recipients who viewed the gallery and number of visits to the gallery.

 

[Language] (Change)
Changes the language in which you view the site. Available languages are:

  • US English
  • UK English
  • International English
  • French
  • German
  • Japanese (Kanji)

 

Make All of My Galleries Private
Select this to make all your galleries PRIVATE and viewable only by invitation.

Make All of My Galleries Public
Select this to make all of your galleries PUBLIC and viewable by ALL Photoshop Showcase visitors.

Make this gallery private
Select this option to make the specific gallery PRIVATE and viewable only by invitation. This setting over rides the global setting (Make All My Galleries Public/Private)

Make this gallery public
Select this option to make the specific gallery PUBLIC and viewable by ALL Photoshop Showcase visitors. This setting over rides the global setting (Make All My Galleries Private/Public)

Most Recent
Arranges galleries with the newest galleries, based on the upload date from Adobe Photoshop Elements, presented first.

Most Visited
Arranges galleries with the most highly visited galleries presented first.

My Galleries
Displays all of your media assets uploaded to Photoshop Showcase and serves as your home page upon logging in to the web site.

My Invitations
Displays the list of all invitations sent TO the email address associated with the account. Invitation history is preserved for as long as the email address remains associated with the account. Changing the email address (MyAccount) resets the My Invitations list to filter based on the new email address.

 

Personal Message (Share)
The message within the body of the email invitation sent while sharing galleries privately. The Personal Message is populated by default and can be customized by each user, during each share process.

Public Galleries
Displays public galleries where you can view the media assets of other Adobe Photoshop Showcase users. All content marked as public (Share your Media with: Everyone) will make the appropriate gallery or galleries available for browsing,viewing, rating and sharing for ALL Photoshop Showcase visitors.

 

Quick Share
After you select contacts from your Address Book, clicking ‘Quick Share’ sends invitations to those contacts using the prewritten subject line and personal message.

 

Rating/Current Rating (Gallery Stats)
A valuation of a specific gallery by the Photoshop Showcase community. The current rating is the average of each individual rating as compared to the total number of visitors that entered ratings. Galleries can be rated from a 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest)

Remember Me
Check this box to create a cookie on the hard drive that will automatically log in the user when accessing the online service, either directly through www.photoshopshowcase.com or through the CSP.

Report Gallery
Use this link to report an offensive gallery. Reported galleries are reviewed by the customer service team for appropriate action. Please see the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy associated with this service for additional details on the use and display of offensive content.

Resend
Initiates the sharing of a previous invitation. Resending will open the share page with the same recipients selected and the associated email subject line and message pre-populated.

 

Sent To
In the Invitation Tracking form, the number of contacts to whom an invitation was originally addressed.

Settings
The location on the web site for managing any given gallery as well as your account information. Settings are available by selecting on My Account or by selecting “Settings” during the viewing of a specific gallery. From the Settings page, users can update account information, change the privacy controls for galleries, access the Address Book, view Invitation Tracking and upgrade to a premium account plan.

Share
The process for sending invitations to friends and family. For private galleries, Share is the only mechanism for enabling viewing. Selecting on “Share” opens a page to allow you to send invitations to a specific gallery to friends and family. Private galleries can ONLY be shared by the gallery owner, whereas public galleries can be openly shared by all visitors.

Share your Media with: Everyone (Open to Public Browsing)
Check this box to make your fiels and media assets viewable by all visitors to the online service.

Size
Displays the photo’s size as uploaded to the user’s account on Photoshop Showcase. For onscreen display, images are optimized for viewing, namely 640 x 480.

Sort
Allows you to sort your media assets by Name, Date Uploaded, Number of Visits, and Most Recently Visited. Gallery sorting is only available within My Galleries. Public Galleries are pre-sorted by classification (Most Recent, Top Rated, Most Visited) and History is sorted by visit date for the 20 most recent galleries visited.

Subject Line
Email invitations are sent with a subject line in the email. Photoshop Showcase pre-populates the subject line with a general invitation message. Users can choose to use the standard subject or personalize the email with a custom subject.

Subscription (Premium) Services
Premium, fee-based accounts available to Photoshop Showcase members that provide a variety of value-added benefits and services.

 

Top Rated
Arranges galleries with the highest rated galleries presented first.

 

Upload
The process of sending media assets to Photoshop Showcase, through Photoshop Elements. As a service directly integrating the Photoshop Elements desktop and the Web, UPLOADING TO PHOTOSHOP SHOWCASE IS ONLY POSSIBLE FROM PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS V5.0 AND UP. Additionally, the new custom photo gallery functionality within Photoshop Elements 5.0 is supported ONLY by Photoshop Showcase. In addition to supporting the uploading, viewing and sharing of custom photo galleries (Web photo galleries, interactive galleries, animated galleries, maps, etc.), video files (multiple image formats supported as identified below) and images are supported for uploading to Adobe Photoshop Showcase. Multiple photos and videos can be uploaded in a single upload/sharing process (from Photoshop Elements v5.0 and up), only one custom photo gallery can be uploaded at a time.

Upload limits imposed by Photoshop Elements or Adobe Photoshop Showcase include:
    Photos – up to 100 photos in a single upload, maximum of 100 MB per photo
    Videos – up to 100 videos in a single upload, maximum of 100 MB per video
    Custom (Web photo) Galleries – no known image limitation, maximum of 100 MB for photo/video file (as part of the custom
    gallery)

 

Videos
Movie/ film type media assets available for viewing. Supported video formats (for uploading from Adobe Photoshop Elements and playing within the online service) include:

  • .3g2
  • .asf
  • .m2p
  • .m2t
  • .m2v
  • .mov
  • .mp4
  • .mpe
  • .mpeg
  • .mpg
  • .mpv
  • .wmv

Views
The number of times a specific media asset (photo, video, gallery) is seen. Views are counted on a per media asset basis.

Visits
The number of users that enter a specific gallery. A user viewing a gallery can generate multiple views, but only one visit for any given time the gallery or any image within the gallery is accessed.

Visitors
A visitor is considered any user that accesses the online service and can be further classified as a guest or a member. Within the Invitation Tracking form, Visitors refers to the number of contacts who responded to a given invitation.
